Stadium visit: Dens Park – Dundee FC

40 Greatest Football Stadiums - Dens Park
Written by De Twaalfde Man

What to do before the Dundee Derby if you have hours to spend? Hang out in the pub, of course. But when the rival stadium is just down the street, we will have a look first. Especially with all my camera gear present. A visit to Dens Park.

The home ground of Dundee FC was opened in 1899 and renovated in 1998-1999. The stadium has beautiful characteristics, like the odd shaped main stand, which used to hold a large standing section.

Stadium Tour

With the help of some Dutch friends I was able to get a free Stadium Tour. Despite the fact that the man was very busy, he managed to gives a bit of his time to show us around. Also the inside of the main stand is like a time capsule. Full of history and authenticity. Shame that they used to have plans to leave this stadium for a new one because of a possible European Cup tournament held in Scotland. This piece of football history must be maintained.
